Aloha Honolulu!
We’re in beautiful Honolulu Hawaii Sept. 6-19 at the invitation of the Calvary By the Sea Lutheran Church. We can hardly wait to present on one of our passions, Intergenerational Worship, as part of the Hawaii ALCM regional workshop. We’ll be making music in several places, thanks to the efforts of our concert agent Katherine Crosier (Doris’ sister!) who will also be hosting us in her beautiful apartment in the sky. Making sure we don’t get too sunburned, she’s lined up the following schedule:
Sept. 8, 8:30-4 Calvary By the Sea Lutheran Church, Honolulu Workshop Presenters (Session 2, 10:30-noon)
Sept. 9, 7:30 and 10 am Sunday Services @ Calvary By the Sea
Sept. 13, 6pm Jazz Vespers @ St Peter’s Episcopal Church (soup dinner included!)
Sept. 14, 11-noon Concert @ Arcadia Retirement Home
Sept. 14, 6-7pm Concert @ St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church

Ready for Spring!
Ready For Spring
For those of us in the greater D.C. area, this has been a winter without much snow… but not without cold. As I write, I am waiting to go out in the cold with Sharon,as it is the night of the annual WAMMY awards, given by the Washington Area Musicians Association. We are ready for this long winter cold to be gone, and are looking forward to spring!
In April, we will be joining a team going to Haiti to put on a music enrichment program for an elementary school, and perhaps lay the foundation for an ongoing music program. We met with the other members of the team and will meet with the school’s founder in a couple of weeks. Right now, Sharon and I are brainstorming ideas for the trip, so the sky’s the limit! If you would like to receive further information about this project, and become a part of our home team, reply here.
This week, we’re back to BIAS Studio to record some of our Joyous Light of Glory service, in preparation for going as exhibitors of our music to the ALCM (Association of Lutheran Church Musicians) Biennial Conference in Valparaiso, Indiana, to be held in June. We look forward to being at BIAS and congratulating them on their WAMMY win of Best Studio as well as our sound engineer, Jim Robeson, who won Best Producer. We also plan to record some new Braeded Chord singles like “Courage” so be looking for those!
In March, we have performances lined up in Front Royal, Gainesville, and Culpeper and would love to see some of your lovely faces!

Taking a Quick Breather
Just taking a breather before our last Christmas show tonight. It’s been a pretty good season– we’ve enjoyed playing for some large groups in a variety of places over the past week and a half– a posh country club, a large church, and even a jewelry store. We’ve enjoyed the audience interaction and positive comments at each one, but I think last night’s has to move to the top of our list. We were at a Rehab/Rest Center for a Family Night Holiday party. The tables were nicely decorated and snack buffet set up in an adjoining room. Family members brought in their loved ones, most all in wheel chairs. We greeted a few “regulars” we knew from our monthly visits, where we sing with the residents on Sunday afternoons. It was wonderful to hear people singing with us– they especially seemed to enjoy “Jingle Bells,” where we had everyone with keys become our percussion section, “Frosty,” “Rudolph”, and the “12 Days of Christmas.” One man came to us after returning his wife to her room and said, “Thanks a million. You got my wife to do something she hasn’t done in three years– sing!” Other family members commented on how their loved ones had sung every word of the songs. It felt so good to spread some Christmas cheer! We have a small party to sing for tonight of mostly kids– should be fun! Then onto more practice and the Christmas Eve service at church.
